What is Kief?

Kief, kief, kief… I’m sure you’ve heard this term thrown around by the many stoners in your area. Kief is the byproduct of several days, weeks, months and sometimes years of grinding marijuana in the same grinder.

It builds up over time either in the dark corners and crevices of your grinder, or if you have a fancy grinder, it most likely comes with a kief catcher in which an area with a screen that is designed to ‘catch’ and preserve your kief in an easy-to-access way.

Kief is essentially very low grade hashish. It is not exactly the same so don’t confuse the two and start using the word hashish as a replacement for kief.

Hashish is prepared by many hours of work and labor to produce a high quality marijuana product, while kief is simply the leftover trichomes and bits of leafy matter that accumulate over time as a result of grinding up your marijuana, but you can turn your kief into hash.

Every stoner loves kief, it is like the toy you get in the cereal box after you’ve waited and actually ate all of the cereal to find it. It goes great mixed in with blunts, joints, on top of bowls. Due to the fact that kief is basically loose hash it has a higher concentration of THC and other cannabinoids than regular marijuana, so it is often sprinkled on top of any marijuana product that is about to be smoked for an extra kick and an extra high.
